Daniel McDONALD

Now carrying on the banking business at Forest City as a member of the firm of FRAZER and McDONALD, has been a county resident since 1873. He was born in St. Joseph, Mo. in March, 1844. His father, Dr. Silas McDONALD, emigrated from Kentucky to Missouri in 1836, first settled in Howard County, and moved to Buchanan County in 1838 thus becoming one of the earliest residents of the Platte Purchase. An early resident of St. Joseph, he practiced medicine there many years.

Daniel McDONALD was raised in St. Joseph and educated in the private schools of that city. In 1862 he joined a drug store in St. Joseph and began his medical studies. He attended the Jefferson Medical College of Philadelphia and, in the spring of 1865, graduated from the Long Island Medical College at Brooklyn, N. Y. He returned to St. Joseph and, in 1866, undertook the drug business with his father, in which he continued until May, 1869.

At that date he accepted a position as book-keeper and teller in the State National Bank, now State Savings Bank, of St. Joseph. He remained connected with this bank for over three years, thoroughly learning the banking business at one of the best institutions of its kind in the state. He formed a partnership with Mr. B. B. FRAZER and came to Forest City in 1873 to establish the banking firm, FRAZER and McDONALD. The firm transacts a general banking business for which they have unsurpassed facilities. There is only one other bank in the county. He was married Sept. 1, 1869 to Miss LANDIS of St. Joseph.
