Mr. Morrison, who is now filling the office of collector
of Holt County, was born in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. His parents and
grandparents were residents of the same part of the state. He
spent his early days on a farm about 20 miles southeast of the
city of Lancaster and resided there until moving to Missouri.
In the Civil War, during the campaign in which Lee invaded
the state of Pennsylvania and the battle of Gettysburg was fought, Mr.
MORRISON was for a short time in the volunteer service in the
Union army as a member of the 43d regiment of Pennsylvania Volunteer
Militia.
In February, 1869 he moved from Pennsylvania to Oregon in Holt County.
He
farmed in 1869 and in 1870 was a resident of Atchison County. In July
1871, he accepted the position of deputy county clerk under Albert
ROECKER and was so employed through March 1872. In August, 1872
he went into the office of M. M. SMITH as deputy collector, served
through Mr. SMITH's term, and then in the same position under
W. G. McINTYRE. In 1876, he was the Republican nominee for county
collector and won the office in the November election. He has
always been a Republican in his political sentiments.
