Levi OREN

Now serving his fourth term as treasurer of Holt County, was born in Clinton County, Ohio on Feb. 22, 1842. His grandfather was one of the earliest settlers of Ohio, moving there from York County, Pennsylvania. His parents were Ephraim and Elizabeth (FRAZER) OREN.

In 1844, the family moved to Randolph County Indiana. September 6, 1860 he married Fannie MOORE, a descendent of the Earl of Antrim, an Irish nobleman. In December, 1863 he enlisted in the 9th Indiana cavalry and served until Aug. 26, 1864 in the armies of the Cumberland and the Mississippi, taking part in the battles of Franklin, Nashville and others. While in the army, his wife and her father moved to Holt County, Missouri, and on being discharged, Mr. OREN joined them and began farming in Nickell's Grove.

He has always been a Republican and in 1870 received his party's nomination to, and was elected to, the position of county treasurer. He has been re-elected three times. Since 1874, he has also been in the drug business at Oregon, in partnership with Dr. Reuben KING and carried on a large business under the firm name "KING & OREN." Mr. OREN has four children.
