Joseph ANSELMENT
Joseph ANSELMENT, the owner of Anselment's Mill in Nodaway township, was born six miles from Carlsruhe, Baden, Germany on June 13, 1816. In 1831 he emigrated with his father to America.
After landing at Baltimore, the family proceeded to Marion County, Ohio.
In Jan., 1840 he married Catharine ZOOK, who died early in 1851. In Dec., 1851 he married Anna SIRY of Crawford County, Ohio. In Oct., 1866 he came to Holt County, Missouri.
He owns 560 acres of land in Holt County, and 200 acres in Ohio. In 1872 he built a mill on Nickell's Creek, which runs through his farm, known as Nickell's Grove Mill.
It is provided with both steam and water power, is a flourishing mill, does a large custom and merchant work, and is an important accommodation to the farmers of Nodaway township.
He has a record of voting for Republican presidential candidates. He has nine children living, seven of them in Holt County.
